24/7 Vehicle Recovery Across Fife and Central Scotland
Broken down on the A92? Stuck after an accident? GTT Recovery runs a flatbed recovery service across Fife and Central Scotland, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Your vehicle gets loaded safely onto the flatbed and taken wherever you need it: home, your garage, a dealer, anywhere.
What We Can Recover
GTT handles most situations that leave a vehicle stranded:
- Roadside breakdowns - mechanical failure, engine trouble, gearbox problems
- Accident recovery - post-RTC collection, often working alongside insurers
- Vehicles that won't start - flat battery, starter motor failure, or anything leaving you stuck (see our jump start service if you're local and the battery is the only issue)
- Stuck vehicles - mud, snow, ditches, soft ground
- Car park incidents - damage or breakdown in multi-storey or surface car parks
- Failed MOTs - collect your car from the test centre and take it to a garage of your choice
We recover cars, estates, MPVs, and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.
Why Flatbed Recovery Protects Your Vehicle
Most people just want someone to show up. But how your vehicle gets moved matters, particularly if it's automatic, all-wheel drive, or has been in an accident.
GTT uses a Renault Master flatbed. Your vehicle drives or winches onto a flat platform and sits there for the entire journey. Nothing drags. Nothing hangs off the back by two wheels. The drivetrain stays untouched.
Here's why that matters:
- Automatic gearbox vehicles should never be dragged by two wheels. Towing an automatic with the driven wheels turning and the engine off circulates the transmission fluid without the pump running, which can cause serious internal damage. On a flatbed, all four wheels are off the road. No risk.
- AWD and 4WD vehicles have the same problem. Both axles are linked, so towing from either end puts stress through the transfer case. Flatbed is the correct method for these vehicles, full stop.
- Low-profile and sports cars sit close to the ground. Standard tow trucks often struggle with the approach angle and can scrape bodywork or splitters during loading. A flatbed loads far more gently.
- Accident-damaged vehicles are often structurally compromised. Attaching a tow bracket to a damaged subframe or bumper can cause further damage. The flatbed loads from the wheels, distributing weight safely.
- Insurance claims - your car arrives at the garage or bodyshop in exactly the condition it left the scene. No additional damage, no disputes.
If someone offers you a cheaper recovery with a traditional tow truck for an automatic or AWD car, it is worth asking what it costs if the gearbox needs replacing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does vehicle recovery cost?
Recovery pricing depends on distance, time of day, and how the vehicle needs to be loaded. Ring us on 07456534488 and we'll give you a price over the phone before we set off. No call-out charge for the quote.
Can you recover automatic and AWD vehicles safely?
Yes, and the flatbed is the right tool for both. Automatic and AWD vehicles should not be towed on two wheels because of the risk of transmission damage. On GTT's flatbed, all four wheels are off the road for the entire journey.
What if I've been in an accident?
Ring us on 07456534488. We handle post-accident recovery across Fife and Central Scotland. We can take your vehicle to any garage, bodyshop, or dealership you choose, and the flatbed method means no additional damage during transport. If you're making an insurance claim, that matters.
